Glitter 2011 Edit Part 1 out now!

Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union's 'Glitter' has become an iconic track in the pantheon of progressive house since its release in 2009. It was featured on the Global Underground 2009 compilation, has had over 10,000 views on YouTube and the mighty PROFF has declared it one of his favourite tracks of all time and one that he still plays out - as evidenced by his inclusion of 'Glitter' in his Kazantip set earlier this year. Following the recent Lowbit & FindRemix 'Glitter' remix competition we are delighted to present the first of two 'Glitter' remix packages to come this year.

'Glitter 2011 Part 1' kicks off with the Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union edit of the track, which kicks off with the same instantly driving drums and that standout lead chord of the original. But don't be fooled into thinking that this is just another clone of its predecessor, because this version of 'Glitter' has morphed into an edgier, fiercer echo of its original self, with a new electro edge, a subtly interwoven, more melancholic take on the original melody and a bittersweet bite.

Next up is the mighty Soundprank, making his eagerly anticipated debut on Lowbit with a remix that can only be described as a masterclass in melody, atmosphere and emotion. The original elements of 'Glitter' take a back seat here as Soundprank makes the track totally his own - although intimately inspired by the original's energy. Starting off in very deep, melodic territory, you're lured in by hypnotic chords, intense layers of suspense and atmosphere and a truly momentous breakdown that once experienced will never be forgotten.

Polish powerhouse Kobana meanwhile has created a stunningly powerful remix that hooks you in with majestic, shimmering, summery waves of melody underlaid with the deep bassline of the original and contrasted with the twist of a vocal stab. Thus does Kobana create an epically dramatic build-up that segues smoothly into a beatifully warm, uplifting, emotive rework that instils a nostalgia for summer sunshine and a longing to hear more.

Last but not least Lowbit is proud to present the winner of the remix competition, D-Eye, whose remix grabs your attention right away with its energetic drums and bassline, punctuated by percussive flourishes and squelchy rhythmic chords. Gradually he filters in the original bassline and topline melody but successfully manages to make the track his own by building a peak-time dancefloor demon with enough energy to power the National Grid that simultaneously retains subtle flashes of the original's summery disposition.

Their new release called Solar Flare is out now via Berlin, Germany based Afterglow Records. Original Mix of Solar Flare is just what good underground progresive house sound should be all about these days: deep, strong colorful melody spiced up with super catchy driving beats. If this one can leave you without mooving your feets on the floor during some easy listening nights out in the club, then you better head of to the doctor to check your either heart of your ears!

On the remix dutie, also Berlin based, the living legend and a true master of melodic progressive house – Martin Roth. Martin reinterprets Original by bringing it into darker and deeper corners of progressive house; Martin’s usual own way of equalibriting between melodic techno and progressive house sound. We wanted to thank everyone who entered the ‘Glitter’ remix competition and we were very excited to hear so many good entries. It was a really tough choice to make, but after much deliberation we have picked the winners.

#1 D-Eye Remix: The reason we chose this as the winner is that we feel it has a strong foundation, some nice intricate rhythms and strong crossovers with a solid bassline. It’s a great track, and in our view this was the remixer who showed the most versatility in changing and transforming the track between soft/deep/techy. Nice work indeed.

#2 Outlook Remix: Nice crispy, professional sound with sweet melodies and arpeggios. A track that works well on sunny days, sipping ice cold drinks at the beach.

#3 inSilico: Great energetic remix with well-produced melodies, tight drums and a nice deep bassline. This remix retains the core of the original while putting its own twist on it.

Findremix and Lowbit Records are teaming up for Lowbit’s first ever remix contest. We are giving you the opportunity to remix the force behind Lowbit Records – Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union – and one of their most successful tracks to date, ‘Glitter‘. The winner gets a digital release on Lowbit Records alongside star talent like Soundprank, Ben Coda, Steve Haines and Kobana and prizes by Rob Papen, MeldaProduction, Mellow Muse and Cytomic!

‘Glitter’ was originally released in 2009 and climbed quickly to the top charts on Beatport as well as being licensed to Global Underground and featured on their GU2009 compilation. Today ‘Glitter’ is still getting hundreds of plays online every week and we couldn’t think of a better track to use for this competition. Lowbit is looking for remixes in the tech house/progressive house/techno genres.

Lowbit Records latest EP features 2 amazing tracks, "Dry & Dirty" & "Wet & Juicy", from Argentinian DJ and producer Niko Fantin (Fiberline Audio / Proton Music / Balkan Connection). "Dry & Dirty" is a dark, throbbing and constatly evolving progressive house track with dissonant melodies and a droning baseline. "Wet & Juicy" on the other hand is a much more uplifting track with a funky arpeggio baseline and groovy rhythms.

On the remix side, we have Andrea Cassino (Cassino & Laben) giving his interpretation of "Dry & Dirty" and its a fantastic minimal track, Hernan Cattaneo charted this remix for his August 2009 chart at #10. Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union teamed up with their good friend Red-Eye (Red Session Records) and did a splendid deep progressive house remix of DJ Dalysovich - Candy Girl for Red-Eye's label Red Session Records. At the time of writing the remix is #13/20 on the promo pool chart!

Sweden's Erik Pettersson is better known as DJ/producer Sonic Union, one half of prolific progressive house pair Bastards of Funk and Sonic Union and co-founder, label owner and manager of Lowbit Records.

Having played and produced progressive, techno and tech-house for over 14 years, his versatility, experience and sheer talent enables him to turn his hand from everything to producing, remixing, mastering, DJing and label management. He is known for his technical prowess both behind the decks and the mixing desk, while his DJ sets – which have seen him tour Mexico, India and Greece and hold residencies in Canada and his native Sweden – are renowned for their uniquely uplifting energy.

In 2005 he joined forces with his production partner Daniel Sandberg aka Bastards of Funk and a musical match made in prog-tech heaven was born! Since then this dynamic duo has had their music consistently championed by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Tiesto, Carl Cox, Armin van Buuren, Hernan Cattaneo and Anthony Pappa, featured on compilations including Global Underground and Ministry of Sound and released on labels such as Replug, Whartone, Spherax and Baroque. Also hugely in demand for their remixing skills, to date they have remixed top talent including Jim Rivers, Andy Caldwell, Cid Inc, Shiloh and Quivver and the requests just keep on coming! Having just released their rework of Soundprank 'Fortis' on Proton Music in May 2011, their remix of Jim Rivers 'Black Keys' is due out in July on McGroove and their interpretation of Interplay's 'Ignition' is forthcoming on one of the biggest progressive labels in the world, Anjunadeep.

Not content with their own production achievements, in 2009 the duo formed their record label Lowbit Records with the aim of championing the hottest up and coming producers on the progressive scene and releasing consistently top-notch tracks - and in just two years their eagle-eyed ability to spot and sign the most spine-tingling tracks and talent has seen the label grow from strength to strength. Given Lowbit's soaring success to date, it's no surprise that the label’s impressive artist roster reads like a who’s who of some of the most high-profile progressive artists as well as some of the most talked-about new talent, including Cid Inc, Ben Coda, Soundprank, Thomas Penton, Kassey Voorn and Deepfunk. This star quality hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Lowbit tracks are now regularly finding their way into the record bags and podcasts of DJs including Carl Cox, John Digweed, Paul van Dyk, Jaytech, James Grant, PROFF, Noel Sanger, Beltek and many more.

With such success under his belt it's fair to say that 2011 has gotten off to a flying start for Erik, but not just on the production side; so far the year has seen him play at Lowbit parties in London, Greece and Miami, tour in India and warm up for Spektre and Leeroy Thornhill of The Prodigy. He also hosts a monthly 2-hour Lowbit radio show on Proton Radio and his own monthly Sonic Union podcast, which has over 10,000 subscribers.

With a packed DJing and production schedule, a burgeoning label and worldwide Lowbit parties to run, it's no wonder that Erik has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the hardest-working DJ/producers out there. But as the saying goes, there's no rest for the wicked – this Swede has a lot more up his sleeve for 2011, so stay tuned...
